Sensei Riva Tarnopolsky

Technical Director, teaching Japanese Karate-Do

Riva Tarnopolsky began her martial arts training in 1977 and has over 40 years of teaching experience. After 7 ½ years in the art, she had relocated and trained at two other dojos (schools). Returning home after five years and training under her original traditional instructor, she ultimately earned her Sho Dan (1st Degree) in Shotokan under Osamu Ozawa, one of the original founders of the Japan Karate Association (JKA) and earned her San Dan (3rd Degree) through the American Shotokan Karate Alliance (ASKA), testing under the late Sensei Randall Hassell.   After 20 years, she tested again, earning her Yon Dan (4th Degree) under Scott Langley, Head and Founder of HDKI (Hombu Dojo Karate International, based in Dublin, Ireland).

Riva was certified Instructor with the American Shotokan Karate Alliance,and has taken numerous instructors training courses as well as attended seminars on instructing children with special needs.

Riva is certified as a Group Fitness Instructor and as a Personal Trainer through the American Council on Exercise.

Riva taught children, youth, and adult classes at the Traditional Karate-Do Family Training Center and was responsible for the advancement of the 5–12 year old age group and all beginning students. In addition, she conducted self-defense classes.
